Visit to Uzbekistan additional impetus to bilateral relations

Belgrade/Tashkent, 7 April 2023

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic met today with Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Saidov, by which he started the second day of his visit to the countries of Central Asia.

The Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs welcomed the initiation of the mechanism of political and economic consultations, which should provide an institutional impetus and contribute to the progress and direction of our overall cooperation in the coming period.

Dacic pointed out that the potential for intensifying cooperation exists in the fields of agriculture, textile industry, metallurgical industry, pharmaceuticals and other fields, and added that it is important to consider the possibility of forming an intergovernmental commission for economic and trade cooperation, as one of the possible incentives for the development of our relations.

He thanked Uzbekistan for its principled and consistent support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia.

Saidov expressed his belief that this historic visit of the Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs to Uzbekistan will give a new impetus to our relations and raise the cooperation between the two countries to a higher level.

He reiterated Uzbekistan's unchanged position regarding respect for Serbia's territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Dacic also met today with Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev, with whom he discussed the possibility of developing and improving overall bilateral cooperation and intensifying relations.

Khodjaev expressed his satisfaction with today's historic visit by the Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs and determination to build strong ties, along with the improvement of overall cooperation, especially in the fields of economy, agriculture, culture and science.
