Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenkovic opened the Croatian House – Matica today at a solemn ceremony in Subotica.
At the ceremony on the occasion of the opening of that home and the celebration of the holiday of the Croatian community in Serbia – the birthday of Bishop Ivan Antunovic, which began with the singing of the Serbian and Croatian national anthems, Brnabic said that Serbia considers relations with Croatia to be important and that it is interested in improving mutually beneficial cooperation.
She assessed that today's visit of Croatian Prime Minister Plenkovic to Subotica and her recent visit to Zagreb provide a positive impulse for the formation of much better relations in the future.
It is extremely important that we just started intensifying the dialogue and visits, and this year alone we had six visits, that is, meetings at the highest level, the Prime Minister stated.
The Prime Minister expressed her belief that this will be extremely important for further creating a climate for talks and getting closer to solving the open issues of the two countries, which have been open for decades.
Brnabic recalled that in Zagreb in April this year she said that Serbia considers relations with Croatia to be very important, while expressing her satisfaction that the Prime Minister of Croatia is staying in Subotica less than two months after the meeting in Zagreb, where they attended the Assembly of the Serbian National Council together.
According to her, Serbia and Croatia share a lot, both nice and bad things, and it's no secret that we are still burdened by the heavy consequences of our common history, which often led to the deterioration of relations.
She pointed out that any, even the smallest, cooling of relations is always first felt among members of minority national communities, that is, Serbs in Croatia and Croats in Serbia.
And that is also one of the reasons why Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced that Serbia will sincerely work on ameliorating relations with Croatia, in the hope that we will do our best to first of all respect each other, to cooperate, with understanding and consideration of common interests and needs based on European values, which would contribute to the further prosperity of the entire region, said Brnabic.
Brnabic and Plenkovic previously held a bilateral meeting in the City Hall in Subotica, and then a meeting of representatives of the governments of Serbia and Croatia was held.
