Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesic spoke today with representatives of the French company VINCI Airports, who presented him with a plan to solve the problem of congestion and flight delays at Nikola Tesla Airport.
Vesic stated that the situation at the airport has improved significantly compared to the previous week, but that it is not yet good enough, while the representatives of VINCI presented a plan of measures they plan to take in order to normalise the situation as soon as possible.
The company made a decision to increase the salaries of employees in the sorting section, i.e., those who work on sorting and transferring luggage, where the biggest problem occur.
Stating that the company lacks about 100 people, Vesic said that VINCI promised at the meeting that employees in the sorting section will be able to earn up to RSD 117,000, i.e., up to €1,000, with increases and bonuses during the season, compared to the net salary for this job, which was around RSD 60,000.
The company will again invite all those who have certificates in order to compensate for the lack of people as soon as possible, and at the same time announced a welcome bonus of RSD 60,000 for three months for each new employee, he said.
According to him, VINCI already has about 50 interested parties “on hold”, who are in the stage of security checks, and in the coming weeks, as soon as these checks are completed, they will start working in the sorting section, which will reduce the problem.
Vesic pointed out that 3,146,171 passengers were recorded at Nikola Tesla Airport as of today, and that more than seven million are expected by the end of the year, which will be a historical record.
He told the representatives of VINCI that all passengers, as well as all employees, must be treated as in all other countries and asked them to think about introducing orderlies that would be at the service of passengers, which is a practice that exists at other airports as well, including in Paris.
At the meeting, an agreement was reached that Vesic and representatives of VINCI meet once a week in order to monitor the situation at the airport and the effects of the measures, according to a statement from the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure.
