In her introductory speech, the Prime Minister spoke on the perspective of global transformation led by artificial intelligence and presented Serbia and all our successes in the field of information and communication technologies, digitalisation, artificial intelligence, innovation and development of biotechnology, as well as plans for the future.
I joined politics and the government of Serbia at the invitation of Aleksandar Vucic in 2016, as Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government, and the first thing I wanted to work on was eGovernment. I never dreamt of being a politician, but I dreamt of doing something big for my country and I saw my chance in electronic administration, she explained.
In addition, as she added, since then we have done a lot on the development of the IT sector in our country, all with the aim of facilitating the accelerated development of IT, digitalisation and entrepreneurship.
The fact that the export of IT services from our country amounted to €345 million in 2012, and that this year it is expected to reach €4 billion, speaks of the achieved growth of the IT sector in our country.
The key areas in which we see potential are artificial intelligence and biotechnology, we also see Serbia as a country that can be a regional leader in the development of global AI (Artificial intelligence) solutions, but also as a place where we will adopt artificial intelligence in order to enable the continuous transformation of our economy, so that it is more productive and knowledge-based. All this will lead to people having better jobs and a higher standard of living, the Prime Minister said.
Prime Minister Brnabic acquainted the Summit participants to the goal of the strategy we have adopted, which is the development of AI in education, research and development, as well as the adoption of AI in a responsible and ethical manner.
The Prime Minister pointed out that Serbia is the first country in the Southeast European region to adopt an artificial intelligence strategy in 2019. We are also the first country in SEE to establish an Artificial Intelligence Institute in 2021, establish a National Platform for AI Supercomputers, and one of 11 countries to introduce AI into primary and secondary schools.
According to her, this year we also adopted comprehensive ethical guidelines for the application of artificial intelligence, and the goal is to develop regulations that enable the rapid development of innovations and thus be among the leaders in Europe.
She indicated that work is being done on the development of the BIO4 Campus, with which Serbia wants to build an ecosystem that enables the development of biotechnological solutions with flexible regulations, which will be in accordance with the highest ethical standards.
