Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali visited today the location where a new national stadium, facilities for the EXPO exhibition and a new Belgrade Fair will be built.
Mali, who was also the Chairman of the Working Group for managing the candidacy procedure of the city of Belgrade for the international specialised exhibition EXPO Belgrade 2027, visited together with representatives of the City of Belgrade, the Serbian Construction Directorate and construction companies the area in Surcin where the largest construction site in this part of Europe will soon be activated, spanning approximately 150 hectares.
This is becoming the biggest construction project in this part of Europe, the place where the new national stadium, the new EXPO, the new Belgrade Fair and a large number of residential, business and commercial buildings will be built, he underlined.
According to him, the new stadium will span about 32 hectares of land, 25 hectares are intended for the EXPO space, while hotels and residential and related facilities will be built on the rest of the land.
Mali expressed satisfaction with the fact that Belgrade is hosting the EXPO exhibition in 2027 and that our country won the race with the United States, Thailand, Argentina and Spain, as well as the expectation that we will have more than three million visitors in 2027 alone, with revenues exceeding one billion euros.
Serbia will host more than 120 countries that will present themselves, and this is an opportunity to discuss cooperation, the economy, and new jobs. Our country was on the verge of bankruptcy in 2012 since it did not even have money for salaries, whereas 15 years later, in 2027, it will be the economic centre of the world, the Minister pointed out.
Belgrade currently offers 11,400 beds, while twice as many will be needed for the upcoming exhibition, emphasised the Deputy Prime Minister and added that everything must be completed by the end of 2026.
Mali pointed out that the construction of four new roads and a new interchange will employ the construction industry and quarries, and this is a good opportunity to present our youth, the IT industry and all that we have achieved in the previous period.
The EXPO area will be a new area for development with a completely new necessary supporting infrastructure. We are changing and confirming the position of the absolute leader in the region, this is the merit of all citizens of Serbia and the result of hard work, he concluded.
The specialised exhibition “Belgrade Expo 2027”, under the theme “Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All”, will be held in Belgrade between 15 May and 15 August 2027.
The planned EXPO complex will include fair halls, pavilions, accommodation facilities and commercial facilities and will be successfully connected to the city centre and the airport, taking into account the Belgrade metro and bypass projects.
