Minister of Family Welfare and Demography Darija Kisic is participating in the 5th Demographic Summit in Budapest, which was officially opened by Prime Minister of the Republic of Hungary Viktor Orban.
Kisic pointed out at the summit that demographic changes are the most important changes the whole world is facing.
The Minister pointed out that the predictions are that demographic changes can have the greatest impact on the future of all nations, whether it is a decrease in the number of inhabitants, a decrease in the birth rate, an aging population or an increased birth rate, overpopulation and various socio-economic effects that are significant problems, especially in the countries of Asia and Africa.
She assessed that the summit in Budapest is of great importance in order for countries to present their experiences and the measures they apply when it comes to demographic trends and pointed out that the Republic of Serbia is proud of the results of the pronatalist measures it applies.
Those measures started to produce results as we were able to halt the downward trend in the birth rate. The rate of natural increase is still negative, but the birth rate has started to go up, the mortality rate has decreased, so we hope for more favourable demographic results in our country as well, Kisic underlined.
