Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović signed today two agreements with Chinese companies that will enable new Chinese investments in the Serbian energy sector, with a total value of approximately €2.7 billion.
Đedović Handanović signed a framework agreement with China Energy International Group on the construction project of a plant for the processing of oil and oil derivatives in Smederevo, and with Hunan Rich Photovoltaic Science & Technology a Memorandum of understanding on investments in the field of renewable energy sources.
She stated that the first document envisages the construction of a plant for the processing of oil and oil derivatives in Smederevo, and the new plant will produce oil derivatives in accordance with the highest technological, ecological and product quality standards in the EU.
According to her, the total amount of the investment is estimated at approximately €2.4 billion, and the direct employment of 700 people and the indirect employment of approximately 2,400 workers are planned.
Đedović Handanović explained that the memorandum signed with Hunan Rich Photovoltaic Science and Technology envisages the investment of this Chinese company in a solar panel factory with a capacity of 1 GW in Paraćin and the construction of a 200 MW solar power plant.
It is planned that over three years, €30 million will be invested in the plant for the production of solar panels and 180 workers will be employed. Additionally, this company will invest €280 million in the construction of a solar power plant in Serbia, Đedović Handanović said.
