Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović spoke with the Director of Market Development for Central and Eastern Europe of the French company EDF, about cooperation in the field of hydropower and nuclear energy.
Đedović Handanović pointed out that during the recent visit of President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić to France, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed, which established a framework for long-term dialogue and cooperation in the energy transition and low-carbon technologies, and which opened the door for new investments in production capacities in hydropower, while EDF showed interest in building new and revitalizing existing hydroelectric power plants in cooperation with "Elektroprivreda Srbije".
We will form joint teams for cooperation in the field of hydropower in which we can work on the preparation of feasibility studies for individual projects, said Đedović Handanović.
The Minister reminded that thanks to the signed Memorandum, a framework for cooperation in the field of nuclear energy was established.
She added that this creates the conditions for a strategic partnership with EDF in assessing the potential for the development of the civil nuclear program in Serbia, with support for the development of professional staff and the exchange of technical knowledge.
We are already engaged in the identification of experts in the country and abroad who could competently analyze and prepare our country's entry into the civilian nuclear program, while we will soon organize the first expert visits to our faculties and scientific institutions from France, she said.
