At a session of the United Nations General Assembly, where the resolution on Srebrenica is being discussed, Vučić emphasised that the resolution will not contribute to reconciliation, but rather, if adopted, will cause new divisions not only in the region, but also in the whole world.
The President of Serbia asked what the purpose of adopting the resolution is if verdicts have already been passed for those responsible for Srebrenica and why old wounds are being reopened today.
He recalled that he himself visited the Memorial Centre in Srebrenica to contribute to reconciliation, but that he was attacked there.
I went to bow my head and lay a flower, and I was almost lynched. And the day after, I extended my hand to those who organised that. This is not about reconciliation. This is not about memories. This is something that will only open old wounds and create complete political chaos. And not only in our region, but also here, in this hall, the President of Serbia pointed out.
Vučić warned that the resolution on Srebrenica is a highly politicised resolution and for that reason called once more on everyone present in the hall to vote against the resolution.
The Serbian President also asked why the resolution is being passed at all if the UN had already passed a resolution in 2015 regarding genocide around the world.
He pointed out that Serbia is not afraid to say loudly that it will vote against this resolution because this resolution will eventually open Pandora's box and added that the UN will face dozens of such resolutions on genocide.
Today, the UN General Assembly adopted the Resolution on the international day of remembrance of the Srebrenica genocide.
84 countries voted for the resolution, 19 countries voted against, 68 countries abstained, whereas 22 countries did not vote.
