Prime Minister Miloš Vučević today laid the foundation stone for the construction of a building with apartments in New Belgrade, which will house 133 refugee families by August 2025.
Together with Vučević, Minister for Public Investments Darko Glišić, Mayor of Belgrade Aleksandar Šapić and Commissioner for Refugees and Migration Nataša Stanisavljević laid the foundation stone.
On that occasion, Vučević pointed out that the government's goal is to provide a roof over their heads to all 8,000 refugee families who have not resolved their housing issue by 2028.
He emphasised that in order to achieve this goal of the government, the support of local governments is also needed, and he expressed his gratitude to the City of Belgrade and the Municipality of New Belgrade for their cooperation.
Glišić said that the building, which is starting to be built today, will have a gross area of 9,451 square meters, and the value of the project is €5.8 million, and he expressed the hope that the apartments will be completed and ready for use by the end of August next year at the latest.
The Minister stated that the Mileva Marić Einstein settlement, where these apartments are being built, represents the new centre of the capital, bearing in mind all that is being built in that part.
Commissioner for Refugees and Migration Nataša Stanisavljević said that in 400 days this place will become a home for 371 members of refugee households.
Stanisavljević said that the government of Serbia will continue, through the activities of the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration, to support all those families of refugees and displaced people who still need help.
Since the beginning of the year, we have allocated more than RSD 400 million to local self-governments intended for housing care for all those who do not yet have their own home, she pointed out.
