Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić said today in Rome that Italy is a key partner of Serbia and the region, both in economic development and in preserving stability and peace.
Đurić, who is on an official visit to Italy today and tomorrow, said that he thanked the Vice-President of the Council of Ministers and Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani, for his support in the development of economic cooperation between the two countries.
The Minister stated that he informed Tajani that in the previous 24 hours, two large production plants of Italian companies were opened on the territory of Serbia, which will help the economies of the two countries to develop faster and to be more competitive together in third markets.
Đurić expressed his gratitude to Italy for its support of Serbia's European path, which is extremely important and strong, while he pointed out that he expects our country to be fully institutionally and reform-wise ready for membership by 2027.
According to him, it is very important that we have the support of countries like Italy, whose political weight can contribute to key progress in the accession of Serbia and the entire region to the European Union.
The Minister expressed satisfaction with the level of communication at a high political level, adding that the joint session of the governments of Serbia and Italy will be held by the end of this year.
He reminded that three major economic forums of Serbia and Italy have already been held this year, stressing that in 2024 the two countries will celebrate 145 years of diplomatic relations, which is an extremely significant anniversary, as well as 15 years of strategic partnership.
Đurić said that Italy can count on Serbia in terms of preventing illegal migration through the so-called Balkan route.
