Interior Ministry prioritises safety of children, students in schools

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić, Minister of Education Slavica Đukić Dejanović and Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia Jan Braathu today signed the Protocol on cooperation and continuation of the project "Together and Safely Through Childhood" at the University of Criminal Investigation and Police Studies.

Dačić said at the ceremony that the safety of children and students in schools is a priority for the Ministry of the Interior, which is why awareness must be raised through informative and educational workshops about the consequences of violence and the support channels available if it does occur.

Đukić Dejanović pointed out that this project represents a significant systemic activity, as well as that the safety of children can only be increased through synergy.

According to her, the Ministry of Education will continue to improve the system of protecting children from violence and to empower employees in the education system to implement preventive activities and strengthen schools’ educational role.

Braathu said that it is impressive that almost 450,000 pupils in Serbia have so far participated in activities within the framework of this project and that almost 35,000 workshops have been held.

The key message is that the police are part of us and are there to protect us, he said and added that the OSCE Mission in Serbia is ready to continue providing support in the coming period.
