Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić pointed out today in Mexico City the great importance of the long-standing friendship between Mexico and Serbia, which has lasted for more than 100 years.
After the inauguration of the new Mexican President, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, Dačić said that he was honoured to attend this event as an envoy of President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, which was attended by many presidents and prime ministers of the most important countries.
He stated that the event was attended by US President Joe Biden’s spouse, presidents of Latin American countries, such as Brazil, Guatemala, Cuba, Paraguay, Chile, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, as well as vice presidents of China, Zimbabwe, Equatorial Guinea and many others.
This was also an opportunity to exchange opinions. Dačić conveyed President Vučić’s greetings to the new President of Mexico, emphasising that Mexico is the leader of Latin America and that further development of bilateral relations with that country is of great importance to Serbia.
Dačić expressed great gratitude to Mexico for its principled position on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, recalling that this country did not recognise the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo.
In this sense, building good relations with Mexico is in Serbia’s vital and national interest, the Deputy Prime Minister concluded.
