First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Siniša Mali said today that in the past decade, Serbia has attained more than 70% of the defined goals, implementing the 10 key reforms in the fight against the grey economy.
Chairing the Coordination Body for Suppressing the Grey Economy, at an event to mark 10 years of the joint fight against the grey economy, Mali emphasised that thanks to the implementation of these reforms, Serbia has gone from a country that was on the verge of bankruptcy to a country that is stable and achieves economic success. He noted that this is evident in high growth rates, macroeconomic stability and, ultimately, the recent improvement of the country’s credit rating to investment grade.
According to him, Serbia is the second fastest growing economy in Europe today, with record low unemployment, and a country that registers a record level of foreign direct investments. He also recalled that Serbia has been selected to host Specialised Expo 2027, a major global event.
NALED Executive Director Violeta Jovanović pointed out that much has been achieved during this decade, not only in terms of concrete results and reforms, but also in terms of strengthening the tax morale, attitudes and awareness of citizens, recalling that 10 years ago, the grey economy accounted for nearly 30% of Serbia’s GDP.
