Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić attended today, together with Slovak Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Juraj Blanár, the opening of the Honorary Consulate of that country in Bački Petrovac, which will be headed by Honorary Consul Andrej Hodolič.

On that occasion, Đurić pointed out that the opening of the Consulate is another step in the improvement of bilateral relations between Serbia and Slovakia, but also a great opportunity for a better connection of the Slovak community in Serbia with the mother country.
Blanár assessed that this is an extraordinary thing, especially when taking into account that Slovaks came to Serbia more than 250 years ago, and during those 250 years they managed to preserve their native language, develop their traditions and build very favourable and good relations with Serbia, where they found their new home.
According to him, today those relations can be further strengthened by the opening of the Consulate in Bački Petrovac, in the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, where more than 30 municipalities are inhabited by Slovaks, who continue to develop their culture and language, where they have their educational and cultural institutions, but also support of the Serbian and provincial governments.
