Minister of Health Zlatibor Lončar and the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge opened the third session of the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies, a partnership of 15 countries in the European region that are not members of the European Union, at the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia today.

Serbia’s health system is open and always prepared to implement new solutions, as well as to apply good practices, Lončar said at the session.
Kluge explained that the WHO’s goal is to empower countries to exchange knowledge, adding that this organisation seeks to demonstrate a strong commitment to Europe and support the health systems of countries that are not members of the European Union.
This year, the experiences of health systems in 15 countries that are not EU members are being shared, he said, adding that each of these insights was built on data provided by countries and carefully analysed by the WHO.
Kluge pointed out that, according to the data, all 15 countries showed progress in universal health coverage, including Serbia, where almost the entire population is covered by health insurance.
