Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić said today that Serbia is committed to a robust, collaborative response – regionally and globally – to migrant smuggling and human trafficking.
At the opening of the 12th INTERPOL Global Conference on Human Trafficking and Migrant Smuggling for Expert Groups, Dačić said that Serbia continues to be an origin, transit and destination country for victims of human trafficking, noting that the Ministry of the Interior is taking active measures to suppress these criminal activities.
According to him, from the start of 2023 to October 2024, 35 criminal complaints were filed against 69 human trafficking suspects, with 61 victims identified – data that emphasises the need for systemic solutions and a comprehensive, coordinated approach.
The Deputy Prime Minister recalled that from the start of 2023 to October 2024, Serbian police filed 600 criminal complaints against 791 individuals suspected of illegal border crossings and human smuggling.
Of this number, 10 criminal complaints were filed against 60 suspected members of organised criminal groups that smuggled irregular migrants.
