Further improvement of fight against smuggling, human trafficking

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić pointed out at the EU-Western Balkans Ministerial Forum on Justice and Home Affairs held in Budva that the uncompromising fight against illegal arms trade at the transnational and national levels, is high on the agenda of the Serbian Interior Ministry.

Speaking about the fight against the misuse of weapons, Dačić stated that the Ministry of the Interior of Serbia will continue to improve the capacities of the border police, with the help of the European Union and the South Eastern and Eastern Europe Clearinghouse for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SEESAC), as well as to work towards improving the project of service dogs that will contribute to investigations related to the detection of explosives and weapons.

According to him, it is important for the EU to continue its activities on connection and cooperation between the states of the region and the states of the Union in order to suppress illegal possession and trade in firearms and raise the level of national and international security.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasised that the results so far show that Serbia is actively focused on strengthening regional and international cooperation in the fight against irregular migration and people smuggling, especially cooperation with neighbouring countries and agencies such as Eurojust and Frontex.
