Minister of Domestic and Foreign Trade Tomislav Momirović said today that the government has decided to introduce restrictions on advertising and promotional activities of betting shops in order to protect citizens, especially young people.
Momirović, appearing on the Morning Programme of the Serbian Broadcasting Corporation (RTS), said that betting shops will be prohibited from advertising on billboards, effectively reducing their visibility on the streets to a minimum.
He also emphasised that advertising betting shops will be banned in print media, except on sport pages, and on television, except during live sport broadcasts. He added that public figures will no longer be able to promote betting shops or encourage people to gamble.
According to him, this move is not directed against companies engaged in legal and legitimate business but is about responsible regulation that will ensure these contents are minimised – without billboards, flashing advertisements and advertising on television outside of specific times.
