Digital version of Miroslav’s Gospel presented in Copenhagen

Director of the Office for Public and Cultural Diplomacy Arnaud Guillon presented today in Copenhagen a digital version of Miroslav’s Gospel – the oldest preserved illustrated Serbian manuscript.

During the presentation of this document at the Royal Library of Denmark, Guillon presented the Danish public and diplomatic corps from almost 40 countries to the special spiritual and material significance of this 12th-century manuscript, written in Old Church Slavonic and Cyrillic script.

He stated that Miroslav’s Gospel, one of the most beautiful manuscripts in Cyrillic script, shows that literacy among Serbs has lasted for more than eight centuries.

The Director of the Office pointed out that culture can overcome all barriers and that it is very important that cooperation between Serbia and Denmark in this area continues.

Learning from the example of the Kingdom of Denmark, on a responsible and modern approach to the preservation of cultural goods, we have decided to, with your help, jointly make a contribution towards the preservation of Serbian cultural heritage, he stated.

Guillon emphasised that the digitisation of this historically significant document was carried out in coordination with the most eminent institutions of Serbia in a manner and in accordance with the most modern European and world practice, and that sophisticated equipment of top quality was used, manufactured by the Danish company Phase One.
