Minister of Culture Nikola Selaković attended, as a special envoy of the President of the Republic of Serbia, the ceremony of inducting 21 new cardinals into office by Pope Francis in St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican.
Archbishop of Belgrade Monsignor Ladislav Nemet was promoted to cardinal, making him the first appointed cardinal at the head of the Belgrade Archdiocese in the history of Serbia.
This year’s solemn act of promotion saw the appointment of the fewest cardinals from Europe, including the newly appointed Cardinal Monsignor Nemet, who celebrated Mass today with the Pope and other cardinals.
During his visit to the Vatican, Selaković also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Holy See Archbishop Richard Paul Gallagher, as well as with Secretary of State of the Holy See Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
