Prime Minister Miloš Vučević stated today, at the opening of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summit, that this event confirms Serbia has moved in the right direction in the development of the state and society.
Speaking at event at the Palace of Serbia, Vučević recalled that in 2019, Serbia adopted the first Strategy for the Development of Artificial Intelligence from 2020 to 2025, as well as that it was the first country in Southeast Europe and only the 26th country in the world to adopt such a document.
He assessed that this document was visionary, pointing out that it addressed one of humanity’s most crucial challenges – the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI).
The Prime Minister particularly emphasised that Serbia seeks to secure the best possible starting position in the new industrial revolution, aiming to harness opportunities that could revitalise the country.
According to him, the strategy’s implementation would ensure AI is deployed safely, following international ethical standards, and improving citizens’ quality of life.
Serbia has invaluable human potential, particularly its young people and an information technology (IT) community that has demonstrated that it can be successful and competitive, explained Vučević.
The Prime Minister also recalled that in 2021 Serbia opened the Institute for Artificial Intelligence, the first in Southeast Europe, stating that work is underway to prepare a new AI development strategy, set to cover the period until 2030.
He expressed confidence that this will be done by the end of the year.
Underlining that every AI initiative must focus on the well-being of people, Vučević added that he is proud of the fact that Serbia will assume the chairmanship of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence together with Slovakia.
The GPAI Summit has gathered more than 130 delegates and 1,000 experts from around the world at the Palace of Serbia.
