Intensive works on construction of Kostolac wind farm

Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović today toured, together with Head of the European Union Delegation to Serbia Emanuele Giaufret and German Ambassador to Serbia Anke Konrad, the construction site for the Kostolac wind farm, which will supply energy to more than 30,000 households.

The investment is worth €144 million and is financed through German development cooperation with a €110 million loan from the KfW bank, as well as EU grants in the amount of €30 million, with part of the funds provided by power company Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS).

Đedović Handanović noted that this is EPS’ first wind farm, which, with a capacity of 66 MW, will further increase the security of electricity supply in Serbia and advance the country’s decarbonisation agenda.

Giaufret stressed that this project is aligned with the EU Green Agenda for the Western Balkans and represents a concrete step towards decarbonisation and sustainable energy development.

The EU supports the transformation of Serbia’s energy sector and has invested more than €1 billion in grants since 2000, he noted.

Konrad stated that Germany is proud to support the construction of the first public wind farm in Serbia as part of a long-standing development cooperation on transition to green energy, which has been ongoing since 2000.
