Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić presented today in The Hague Serbia’s economic results and investment potential at a roundtable that brought together representatives of Dutch companies.
Đurić pointed out that Serbia’s GDP has doubled in the past 10 years, and that the country attracts approximately 63% of total foreign direct investments (FDI) in the Western Balkan region.
According to him, Serbia is the only country that both has access to the European market, where it achieves its largest volume of trade exchange, and has free trade agreements with China, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and many other countries.
He emphasised that the EU is Serbia’s most important foreign trade partner and its largest source of FDI, whereas Serbia is the Union’s leading trade partner in the Western Balkans.
The head of Serbian diplomacy went on to say that the country is firmly determined to become a regional leader in the use of innovative technologies and a new European hub for research and development.
Đurić noted that large global companies, such as Microsoft, are opening their regional hubs in Serbia, and that the country is investing significant funds in research centres.
Serbia ended 2024 as the second fastest growing European economy, with the ambition to be the leader in terms of growth rate this year, the Minister emphasised.
The meeting was attended, among others, by representatives of Ballast Nedam, ING, Ahold Delhaize, RVO, Philips, Levi9, Ecorys and others.
