Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Đedović Handanović attended today the handover of the commissioning certificate for the new B3 unit of the Kostolac thermal power plant.
Đedović Handanović described the occasion as a historic day for the Serbian electricity industry, with the new 350 MW Kostolac B3 thermal power plant officially becoming part of the national energy system.
She pointed out that almost 35 years have passed since the last large energy facility was built by Serbia.
According to her, the new power plant will provide approximately 5% of total electricity in Serbia, making the energy system more secure at a time when energy is the number-one issue for every country, especially in Europe and the region.
The construction of the new unit, alongside the expansion of the Drmno coal mine, is worth $715.6 million.
Equipped with advanced technology and state-of-the-art equipment from 130 companies across China, Germany, Serbia and other countries, the B3 unit is designed to be highly efficient.
