The Ministry of Culture and Media presented the book “The March Pogrom,” published by the Pristina Museum relocated to Belgrade and the Serbian Ministry of Culture, three months after the tragic events of March 17-19 in Kosovo-Metohija.
The edition in Serbian and English is illustrated with photos of devastated Christian inheritance in Kosovo-Metohija. Speaking at the presentation of the book were Head of the Department for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Borislav Surdic, Director of the Pristina Museum and editor of the book Branko Jokic and representative of Mnemosyne NGO Mirjana Menkovic, Tanjug news agency reported.
Head of the Department for the Protection of Cultural Heritage Borislav Surdic said that the book presents many concrete data on the Albanian pogrom against Serbs and their monuments in mid-March 2004. The book also presents the events that took place before March 19 and which were the main motive for publication of this book, he said.
He also said that the Ministry’s task is to actively participate in preservation of monuments in Kosovo-Metohija, and to inform the public and expert circles on the devastation in the province.
Menkovic said that the book primarily aims at representatives of the international community in Serbia and our representative’s offices abroad. The introductory part of the book gives the genesis of the attack on the Serbian inheritance, including the period before UNMIK’s arrival in the province, she explained.
She mentioned the suggestions given in the book to maintain the continuity of protection of the monuments, which were under supervision of the bureaus and cultural institutions in the province for more than 50 years.
