President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic said tonight that a text has been harmonised that Belgrade will send to the KFOR commander, requesting the return of our security forces to Kosovo and Metohija.
In his address to the public regarding the situation in Kosovo and Metohija, Vucic stated that he discussed Serbia's next steps with Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic.
He announced that the government's decision, in accordance with what was agreed today, will be made on Monday or Tuesday, explaining that Resolution 1244 of the UN Security Council confirmed that the agreed number of Serbian military and police personnel will be allowed to return to Kosovo and Metohija to would perform the functions, as listed in Annex 2.
The President of the Republic, reading part of the agreed text, stated that until today there have been no discussions with KFOR about the return of the Army and Police of the Republic of Serbia, adding that he has no illusions and that he knows that they will reject this request.
The legal language here is very precise, so then we will see the next steps, he pointed out.
He said that our formal legal fight is yet to come, pointing out that we have shown every desire for a compromise, and that Pristina has done everything to make it impossible for Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija to live normally.
He pointed out that Pristina has completely violated the Washington Agreement and that on 15 December, Pristina will officially submit an application for membership in the European Union in Brussels.
He also said that on this occasion he sent letters to the presidents and prime ministers of the five countries that did not recognise the province’s independence, reminding them that, in accordance with Article 49 of the EU Treaty, only sovereign states can seek admission to the Union, not those that are not.
The President of the Republic specified that he sent personal letters with different contents to the leaders of Greece, Romania, Cyprus, Slovakia and Spain in which, among other things, he thanked them for supporting the territorial integrity of Serbia and warned them of precedents and the perniciousness of violating international law.
He also said that Serbia will be exposed to the biggest and heaviest external pressures so far, and added that it will not recognise Kosovo or give up on the demand for the formation of the Community of Serbian Municipalities.
