Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Petar Petković spoke today in Geneva with United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk about the threatened rights of the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija.
Petković told his interlocutor that the regime in Priština, led by Albin Kurti, through daily escalating moves, terror, institutional and physical violence against the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija, and the illegal closure of vital institutions, is creating impossible conditions for the lives of Serbs and other non-Albanians.
Because of this, almost 20% of Serbs have emigrated from the north of Kosovo and Metohija, he pointed out.
The Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija emphasised that it is important for the United Nations to use all available mechanisms to stop the terror of Priština and prevent further displacement and persecution of Serbs, unfounded arrests and violations of the basic human rights of our people, and to create conditions on the ground for a sustainable normalisation of the situation and enable Serbs to live a peaceful and dignified life.
