Prime Minister Ana Brnabic spoke today with Secretary General of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Kunio Mikuriya about the improvement of customs work, digitalisation, modernisation and strengthening of personnel capacities.
Brnabic stressed that in recent years a lot has been done on the digitalisation of customs, which has made significant progress.
The Prime Minister also pointed out the importance of customs in the sustainable development of Serbia, since it is an important area for economic growth and improvement of the economy.
She pointed out that the “Open Balkans” initiative is a perfect model for connecting the region and a faster flow of people and goods, stressing that regional cooperation is extremely important for Serbia, both politically and economically, which is why she believes that this format will be improved and that the number of participating countries will increase.
The General Secretary of the WCO pointed out that in previous years, digital technology has advanced rapidly and that today the customs of the world should connect with other agencies, commercial databases and open information platforms.
Mikuriya stated that the WCO encourages cooperation between customs administrations and the trade community, in order to improve communication, primarily in the area of trade security.
He offered direct support in the form of agendas, advice and other forms of assistance to the WCO in implementing the objectives of the customs of Serbia, which he sees as a country with great potential for development.
