Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said today in Dublin, at a panel organised by Bloomberg Media, that Serbia needs investments from all over the world and that it is open to capital coming from both the East and from the West.
In her address to the audience, Brnabic pointed out that it is increasingly complicated to maintain such a direction because the world is becoming more and more polarised, but added that Serbia will try to maintain that course.
We want to be completely open to all investors. When it comes to investments, Germany is our largest partner, the United States of America is Serbia’s partner number one in the field of services while China is the largest importer of Serbian goods. This is the result of our openness to the world in order to do the best possible job for Serbia, she explained.
The Prime Minister pointed out that in the past few years, according to the Financial Times, Serbia has become a world leader in attracting direct foreign investments.
According to her, the information technology sector is the fastest growing in the Serbian economy, where in 2021 every second new job was in the IT industry.
As she stated, the government of Serbia has invested more than €100 million in scientific infrastructure and today there are four science and technology parks in Serbia.
Answering the questions, the Prime Minister pointed out that Serbia is not neutral regarding the war in Ukraine and that we have clearly condemned the Russian invasion, recalling that we supported all UN resolutions condemning such behaviour.
In this regard, we have 100 percent aligned our policy with the EU's foreign and security policy, she underlined and assessed that sanctions are not the solution because, first of all, they affect ordinary people, which we also felt on our own skin in the 1990s.
On the other hand, as she emphasised, our citizens are disappointed that the same principle of respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty is not applied when it comes to Serbia and the status of Kosovo and Metohija.
When it comes to Kosovo and Metohija, the Prime Minister emphasised that Belgrade remains committed to dialogue and reaching a compromise solution, primarily for the sake of future generations.
However, as she assessed, Pristina is obstructing the negotiations. It has been 10 years since the Brussels Agreement, the Community of Serb Municipalities was practically the only obligation, and they have not formed it yet. Without the Community of Serb Municipalities, there is no progress in the negotiations.
