Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić and Ambassador of Israel to Serbia Yahel Vilan visited today member of the Gendarmerie Miloš Jevremović, who was seriously injured while on duty securing the Israeli Embassy.
Dačić emphasised that this terrorist act was nipped in the bud because the gendarme managed to subdue and neutralise Miloš Žujović, a convert from Mladenovac, who shot at him with a crossbow.
He stressed that the heroic act of Miloš Jevremović prevented the further progression of this terrorist act from the start and demonstrated that the Serbian police can protect not only the safety of our country but also the diplomatic and consular missions located within it.
The Deputy Prime Minister stated that the reconstruction of Žujović's movements showed that before the attack on the Gendarmerie officer in front of the Israeli Embassy, he had also gone to the synagogue.
From this, it is clear what the main and potential targets were, as the Deputy Prime Minister pointed out, expressing gratitude to the Ambassador and the State of Israel for their statements of support for the Gendarmerie officer.
Vilan emphasised that there is no and must not be any justification for the terrorist act, adding that he and the Embassy staff in Serbia feel safe and secure, for which he thanked the government of Serbia, the Ministry of the Interior and the police.
The Ambassador highlighted that the courage and actions of the gendarme confirmed the attention Serbia pays to security and its serious approach to terrorist threats, noting that, in his view, Serbia is perhaps the safest country in the world for Israelis today.
