Dačić said that the regular annual meeting of the representatives of the European Union, headed by the Hungarian President and the EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson, was held in Budva with the ministers of the Western Balkan countries, at which the situation related to this region was analysed within the framework of the European Union’s policy.
He pointed out that European officials very positively evaluated all the efforts undertaken by the Ministry of the Interior and the Republic of Serbia to prevent irregular migration together with Hungary.
The Deputy Prime Minister pointed out that there are almost 70% fewer irregular border crossings compared to the previous year, so that illegal route to Hungary is practically closed.
However, there are other routes, especially towards Bosnia and Herzegovina, precisely because of the strict control that exists in Serbia, other routes are being sought to avoid our country, which is a positive fact for us, he said.
Dačić stated that at the meeting, which was also attended by representatives of Europol, Frontex, the European Agency for the Fight against Drugs and South Eastern and Eastern Europe Clearinghouse for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SEESAC), it was concluded that all these activities should be continued.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that on the sidelines of this meeting, he spoke with European Commissioner Johansson, to whom he expressed his gratitude for helping the citizens of Serbia, who are from Kosovo and Metohija, exercise their right to visa liberalisation, as well as for signing the agreement with Frontex.
According to him, Commissioner Johanson was the holder and proposer of significant donations that our border police received from the European Union.
Dačić stated that he also met with Interior Minister of Montenegro Danilo Šarinović, to whom he conveyed that the closeness of the two countries and peoples, as well as the problems we face in the department of internal affairs, impose the need for more intensive cooperation between the ministry and our two police forces.
