Last obstacle to implementation of Declaration on Missing Persons removed

Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Petar Petković stated in Brussels today, after a new round of dialogue between Belgrade and Priština at the level of chief negotiators, that the last obstacle to the implementation of the Declaration on Missing Persons has been removed.

Petković emphasised that there is the Declaration, as well as the Rules of Procedure, and now a joint commission has been agreed upon that will provide support to the working group, which is chaired, as before, by the International Committee of the Red Cross.

He reiterated that for Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija and for Belgrade, the issue of forming the Community of Serb Municipalities and the issue of de-escalation are important.

The Director of the Office stated that it is necessary to reach an agreement on the draft statute as a concrete step in order to move towards the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities, which the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija need desperately, because without it they cannot survive.

According to him, when it comes to de-escalation, the Serbian side underlined that the persecution of Serbs by Prime Minister of the Provisional Institutions of Self-Government in Priština Albin Kurti must stop, especially in the north of the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija, as well as the terror of the so-called Kosovo police, which are illegally present in the north of the province.
