Prime Minister Miloš Vučević once again appealed at an extraordinary news conference held at the Serbian government building today for the organisers of tomorrow’s rally to avoid a scenario of conflict at all costs.
Vučević expressed particular concern over what was broadcast in the media last night, assessing it as preparation and an incitement to a terrorist act.
He recalled that tomorrow’s protest has not been officially registered but that, regardless, those announcing it have the organisational capacity and, therefore, bear responsibility.
As Prime Minister, I once again appeal to all participants, to those who have effectively organised the rally without registering it, to avoid a scenario of conflict, attacks on institutions and other people at all costs. This is the duty and responsibility of all participants, Vučević said.
Expressing hope that reason will prevail tomorrow, the Prime Minister noted that the protest should not be allowed to take a wrong turn, leading to scenes in Serbia that no one wants to see.
The Prime Minister pointed out that there is absolute unity among all state responsibility holders and the state leadership in preventing any form of violence, emphasising that state authorities will sanction anyone who may attempt to break the law, commit acts of violence, attack others, institutions or the police.
The state will prevail, there will be no revolution, and the government will be chosen through elections, he stated, adding that there will be no misrepresentation of arguments or a policy of a supposed defence of institutions through blocking and undermining them.
The Prime Minister stated that the Serbian Armed Forces will never side with putschists or revolutionaries and that tomorrow, as always, they will stand in defence of the homeland.
He once again called on all protest participants not to attack the police, as it serves all citizens, stating that those who do so will bear full responsibility.
You have the right to assemble, to make demands, to engage in political struggle, to express your opinion, to agree or disagree, but you do not have the right to terror or physical violence, the Prime Minister said.
