Improvement of relations with African countries high on Serbia’s foreign policy agenda

Belgrade, 3 April 2025

Outgoing Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić said today, in a telephone conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia Gedion Timotheos that Serbia is committed to developing cooperation with this country in all areas of common interest.

Đurić emphasised that the Serbian chairmanship of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence and the specialised exhibition Expo 2027, which will be hosted by Belgrade, represent a valuable opportunity to continue deepening relations between the two countries.

Also, in a telephone conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and Togolese Abroad of the Togolese Republic Robert Dussey, the Minister recalled that the two countries are connected by a traditional and sincere friendship, which dates back to the times of the Non-Aligned Movement.

According to him, Serbia remains firmly committed to continuing to strengthen bilateral ties, especially when it comes to improving economic cooperation.

Speaking about the intensification of political dialogue, Đurić expressed his hope that a direct meeting between the two ministers will soon take place, which would be a significant incentive for the further development of bilateral ties at all levels.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also spoke today with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Sudan Ali Yusuf Ahmed Al-Sharif about deepening bilateral ties.

In a telephone conversation, Đurić said that Serbia, respecting the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement, nurtures strong and historical ties with Africa and that improving relations with the countries of this continent is high on the agenda of our foreign policy.

Referring to the cooperation between the two countries, he pointed out that there is great potential for improvement in the economic field, but also that there are other domains in which cooperation can be achieved for the benefit of the two countries.
