Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić stated today that Serbia’s relations with Austria are exceptional and that the country significantly contributes to the accelerated economic development of Serbia and the entire region.
In a joint media address following his meeting with Federal Minister for European and International Affairs of Austria Beate Meinl-Reisinger, Đurić pointed out that Austria is the third-largest investor in Serbia.
The head of Serbian diplomacy said that this visit demonstrates Austria’s serious interest in relations with Serbia and the region, as well as the country’s desire to work even more closely in the coming period on the European agenda, where Serbia has the ambition to meet all the necessary conditions for EU membership by the end of 2026 on a credible and merit-based foundation.
He conveyed that the talks also addressed issues related to the Belgrade–Priština dialogue.
We believe it is of great importance that the rights of the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija are protected, that agreements already reached – some more than 10 or 12 years ago – such as the Agreement on the Community of Serb Municipalities, are implemented, and that the mission of EU Special Representative for the Belgrade–Priština Dialogue Peter Sørensen, who is tasked with contributing to the normalisation of the situation, is supported, Đurić underlined.
The head of Serbian diplomacy reiterated Serbia’s strong commitment to continuing internal reforms and economic development, stressing that support for Serbia on its European path is mutually beneficial.
Meinl-Reisinger assessed the political and economic relations between Serbia and Austria as very good and stated that for her country, partnership with Serbia is very important and that there is a desire to expand and further deepen such relations.
We share a long common history, but we also want to share a common future, said Meinl-Reisinger, noting that she also sees a clear determination on the Serbian side to become part of the EU.
