Minister of Domestic and Foreign Trade Tomislav Momirovic today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Minister of Commerce of the People's Republic of China Wang Wentao, by which negotiations on free trade between Serbia and China formally begin.

Momirovic, who is on a visit to Beijing, pointed out that the economic relations between the two countries are at an extremely high level, and that Serbia is an important strategic partner of China in the Western Balkans.
This is another big step in the additional strengthening of our economy, said the Minister and added that ten years ago exports to China amounted to $6 million, and last year it amounted to $1.3 billion, which confirms the fact that we have achieved tremendous success and further developed our economic relations.
He pointed out that one of the main tasks in the coming period is the implementation of the free trade agreement, which will give our companies new opportunities on the Chinese market, and on the other hand, Chinese companies will make even greater successes in Serbia.
The Minister stated that it is expected that next year, when this agreement enters into force, our exports will exceed the amount of $2 billion, which will be a real success.
