The Ministry of Defence announced today that Serbia has taken over a two-year mandate as the framework nation for the Balkan Medical Task Force from Slovenia, through the signing of the handover of command duties between Colonel Veljko Milić and Lieutenant Colonel Igor Stergar.

The handover ceremony of the command duties of the Balkan Medical Task Force was held during the Fourth Regional Military Medical Conference in Belgrade.
The international organisation, the Balkan Medical Task Force (BMTF), with its permanent headquarters in Skopje, was established in 2016 and achieved full operational capability in 2019.
This multinational military medical unit enables member states - Serbia, Slovenia, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, and Montenegro - along with partner countries - the USA and Norway, to use their medical forces and resources more efficiently without duplication and loss of effectiveness, aiming for engagement in crisis situations and natural disasters.
