Prime Minister Miloš Vučević today continued talks with representatives of education unions about improving the financial position of employees in the sector.
Vučević said at the meeting that the Government is focused on improving the financial position of teaching staff, whose salaries will be increased by 12% from 1 January, while salaries for non-teaching staff will be raised by 8%, as much as for other employees in the public sector.
The Prime Minister announced that the salary increase will be 50% higher for teaching staff than for other public sector employees, which will result in the starting salary in education being 94% of the average salary in Serbia.
He pointed out that in the coming period, the Government will strive to bring the starting salary in education to the level of the average salary in Serbia, which is one of the demands of education unions.
Vučević also stated that the largest number of demands of education unions, which were defined by the Protocol signed last year, had been fulfilled.
At the meeting, which was also attended by Minister of Education Slavica Đukić Dejanović and State Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Saša Stevanović, an agreement was reached to continue discussions on improving the financial position of employees in the sector.
Also, it was agreed for the Government and education unions to work together on the adoption of a strategic document on improving the situation in the education sector.
