Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade of the Kingdom of Bhutan Lyonpo D. N. Dhungyel ahead of the opening of the general debate of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.
The ministers discussed intensification of bilateral relations through the strengthening of political dialogue and the implementation of high-level visits, as well as the prospects for improving the economic and business ties of the two countries.
Đurić thanked the Bhutanese Minister for Bhutan’s principled support when it comes to preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Serbia and emphasised that Serbia appreciates the country’s support in international organisations on matters of national importance.
The heads of diplomacy also exchanged opinions on linking the two ministries through training and seminars for diplomats, as well as on bilateral cooperation in the field of education. Đurić particularly highlighted the “World in Serbia” programme as an opportunity for Bhutanese students to study in the country.
After presenting plans for the preparation of the Specialised Expo 2027 Belgrade, Đurić invited Bhutan to participate in this event and to countries from all over the world to present their culture, tradition, tourism and economic potential, according to the news release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
