Prime Minister Miloš Vučević spoke today with President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Kate Forbes about activities and opportunities to support this humanitarian organisation.
The Prime Minister pointed out that the Red Cross, as one of the oldest international organisations founded in Serbia, has a significant impact on supporting vulnerable groups and improving the lives of citizens.
Vučević expressed his gratitude for the contribution and support that these humanitarian societies provided during crisis situations such as the pandemic and natural disasters.
Forbes pointed out that the primary mission of the International Federation is the provision of humanitarian aid and protection of human rights, with volunteers and people of good will who are ready to help being the most important resource.
She called on representatives of Serbia to participate in the International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, which will be held in Geneva at the end of October. The conference, which will gather representatives of the national societies of the Red Cross and the Red Crescent, governments, and non-governmental organisations, represents an important platform for the discussion of issues pertaining to humanitarian aid, protection of human rights and promotion of international humanitarian law.
Emphasising that next year marks the 150th anniversary of the establishment of the Red Cross Society in Serbia, Vučević said that the Serbian government is ready to provide institutional support to facilitate the organisation’s operation and activities in the country.
