At a joint press conference with Prime Minister of North Macedonia Hristijan Mickoski, Vučević said that this represents an introduction to the construction of a new interconnector.
He added that the intention is for Serbia to get another natural gas supply line through North Macedonia, running from Alexandroupolis in Greece, and recalled that Belgrade has made a strategic decision to diversify gas supply sources.
Of course, we want to expand the number of partners who are interested in cooperating with us in the field of energy, which will certainly contribute to the greater energy stability of our country, the Prime Minister said.
He added that the Prime Minister of North Macedonia suggested that an oil pipeline be built in parallel, which would mean a new oil supply route for Serbia.
Vučević said that during the meeting with Mickoski, in addition to infrastructure, the issue of energy dominated.
He stressed the importance of addressing climate change and aligning with the European Union’s green agenda, while ensuring that the Western Balkans does not lose its economic and energy potential.
Vučević pointed out that he received assurances from Mickoski that North Macedonia sees Corridor 10 as a key strategic route for the development of railway infrastructure, traffic and transport.
The Prime Minister said that Serbia strongly supports the European path of the entire region, noting that the EU should have given North Macedonia the opportunity to make progress on its European path a long time ago.
We believe in the common European future of the region, and we think that in this way mutual relations in this part of Europe would be relaxed, he said, adding that the Western Balkans deserves a chance and the support of the entire EU.
The Prime Minister invited the government of North Macedonia and Macedonian businesses to participate in Specialised Expo 2027 Belgrade.
Mickoski pointed out that Serbia and North Macedonia share a vision of the region’s future in the European Union and that with joint efforts they can meet the criteria for membership in the Union and ensure European integration benefits for their citizens.
He said that both governments have committed to the gas interconnector between Serbia and North Macedonia being be a priority.
Regional connectivity remains a priority for Serbia and North Macedonia, he emphasised, adding that the challenges facing the Western Balkans were also discussed.
