Speaking at the Beijing +30 Regional Review Meeting in Geneva dedicated to the Beijing Declaration on gender equality and organised by the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe and UN Women, Macura underlined that Serbia is leading the region, including EU member states, in women’s participation in key political positions.
She highlighted the major progress achieved in political empowerment through the introduction of mandatory quotas to ensure greater representation of women at all levels of assemblies.
She also recalled the violation of human rights in the area of Kosovo and Metohija in Serb and other non-Albanian communities, which has resulted in a significant drop in birth rates and newly enrolled students in schools where these populations are in the majority.
