Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić said today in Tirana that Serbia has assumed the presidency of the Central European Initiative (CEI).
Đurić said at the annual meeting of the ministers of foreign affairs of the initiative that Serbia believes that it is in its vital national interest to encourage economic cooperation, as well as that the backbone of Serbian foreign policy is the creation of a safe and friendly environment for the development and growth of the domestic economy, for infrastructural connections and for resolving outstanding issues from the past.
Presiding over that initiative creates a position for Serbia to set the pace for regional cooperation and significantly influence the topics that will be discussed in regional frameworks, which is an achievement of our diplomacy, he said.
Together with our partners from the region, we will define the priorities of this presidency in a way that will make us a true representative of the idea that countries in the region should stick together in difficult times, Đurić emphasised.
