Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation Jelena Begović is on an official visit to Paris to participate in the AI Action Summit.
Begović had a meeting at the Embassy of Serbia in Paris with Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology of Israel Gila Gamliel, at which the key topic was the signing of the Memorandum of Cooperation between Serbia and Israel in the fields of innovation, science and education.
Begović emphasised the importance of this partnership for the future of Serbia.
We expect a significant deepening of cooperation with Israel, especially in the fields of innovation, development of startup ecosystems and education, Begović added.
The Minister emphasised that the key topics for future cooperation between Serbia and Israel are artificial intelligence (AI) and education, and they also discussed education reform to make AI part of the teaching process from an early age, as well as Israeli support programmes, including a special rapid response fund and AI therapy for mental health of post-war trauma.
According to her, the topic was also partnership in innovation.
Begović stated that during the conversation, models of connecting the government and the private sector through centres for physics, education and startup funds were discussed, which play a key role in strengthening the innovation ecosystem, as well as testing innovations in a real environment.
They also discussed the possibilities of applying Israeli experience in creating pilot projects that enable testing and development of new technologies in real conditions.
She said that it is expected that in the coming period, negotiations on specific projects and models of cooperation that will contribute to the development of science, innovation and education in Serbia will be intensified.
We continue our cooperation with Israel, a country that is perhaps the best example of how science is translated into concrete products and how innovations and the startup ecosystem are developed.
Regarding AI, we discussed how we need to reform education from the earliest age, which is, for example, an example in Israel, and in this way prepare new generations to live and work with artificial intelligence, said Begović.
Gamliel emphasised during the meeting that Serbia and Israel share a common vision of development based on science and technology.
Israel and Serbia have strong potential for cooperation. I am glad that today we have opened important topics that will enable the exchange of knowledge and experiences between our innovation ecosystems, said Gamliel.
She explained the future joint plans of the two countries and stated that it was agreed to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation between Israel and Serbia on innovation, science, technology and AI.
