Prime Minister Miloš Vučević and Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Serbia Li Ming attended the Chinese New Year celebration on the Sava Promenade in Belgrade this evening.
The ceremony, which marked the celebration of the most important holiday of the Chinese people for the seventh time in Belgrade, was held under the auspices of the Serbian government, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China to Serbia, the Chinese Cultural Centre and the Belt and Road Institute.
In his address to the audience, Vučević said that true friends are more important when times are difficult, emphasising that we are not afraid of difficult times, nor do we give up on sincere friends, because that is priceless.
He recalled that last year, the Presidents of Serbia and the People’s Republic of China, Aleksandar Vučić and Xi Jinping, signed historic documents that guide the Serbian people to a shared future in the new era.
The Prime Minister recalled that the Free Trade Agreement between Serbia and the People’s Republic of China entered into force on 1 July 2024, and announced that intensive work will be done to increase the number of Serbian products in China.
Vučević expressed satisfaction that last year UNESCO inscribed the Chinese New Year on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
Li assessed that the celebration of the Chinese New Year, or the traditional “Spring Festival”, demonstrates the respect that the Serbian people and the Serbian government attach to the relations between the two countries and their ironclad friendship.
On the eve of the Chinese New Year, the Chinese Lantern Festival began, during which, until 9 February, visitors can see illuminated lanterns on the Sava Promenade every evening from 5 p.m.
