Prime Minister Miloš Vučević stated today that Serbia is the guarantor of the Dayton Peace Agreement and that above all it wants peace, prosperity and coexistence of Serbs, Bosniaks and Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“Our state, its President, the government that I lead, have always had a clear position:
We recognise the territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, we support its development, we support the best possible relations with both entities that make up Bosnia and Herzegovina.
We are open to discussions with democratically elected representatives of all three constituent peoples of this country.
We protect, love and in every possible way support Republika Srpska, as the highest expression of the free will of the Serbian people in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as an entity recognised in both the Dayton Peace Agreement and the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina and with which we cultivate special ties – clearly, transparently and in accordance with the highest interest of the Serbian people on both sides of the Drina.
Serbs in Bosnia and Herzegovina are not foreigners, they did not come here some time ago, nor do they plan to leave. Serbs are an indigenous people on a land where their roots are deep for more than a millennium.
Serbia above all wants peace, prosperity and co-existence of Serbs, Bosniaks and Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina and therefore I emphasise that such messages, such as those that have been reaching us in recent days from Sarajevo, which are of a threatening nature because they announce the elimination of the political status of the Serbian people in the Brčko District, are neither wise, nor well-intentioned, nor feasible.
Changing the status of the Brčko District is only a step towards the destruction of the Dayton Agreement and the creation of a unitary Bosnia and Herzegovina. Such a scenario is unacceptable for the Serbian factor, and inadmissible for the Government of Serbia.
I appeal once again to all those who send such messages to desist from destroying stability and to stop introducing uncertainty into the political life of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Everyone in the Balkans needs progress, development and understanding. And the key prerequisites for achieving these goals are tolerance, stability and peace,” Vučević emphasised, referring to the statements of Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Elmedin Konaković.
