Under the slogan “Unity and Pride”, the Sretenje Academy was held in Banja Luka ahead of Serbia’s Statehood Day, which this year, for the first time, is also being celebrated as a holiday in Republika Srpska.
The academy, attended by the highest representatives of Serbia, led by Prime Minister Miloš Vučević and President of the Republic Aleksandar Vučić, the leadership of Republika Srpska and numerous guests, began with the singing of the anthems of Republika Srpska “My Republic” and Serbia “God of Justice”.
In his address, Vučić emphasised that Serbia respects the Dayton Agreement and Bosnia and Herzegovina, but that it loves Republika Srpska and will not turn its back on it.
On the occasion of the first joint celebration of the holiday, Prime Minister Vučević assessed that a magnificent gathering of all-Serb unity and harmony was organised in Banja Luka tonight.
On the basis of the Declaration on the Common Future, we continue to build the closest ties, connect, respect and protect each other before international institutions, thus protecting our Serbian name and surname and our national interests, he emphasised.
The decision to jointly celebrate Sretenje and the Day of Serbian Unity, Freedom and National Flag was made last summer at the All-Serb Assembly in Belgrade, when the Declaration on the Protection of National and Political Rights and the Common Future of the Serbian People was adopted.
