Serbia stands by Jewish people, cherishes memory of Holocaust victims

Belgrade/Jerusalem, 19 February 2025

Minister of Foreign Affairs Marko Đurić said today in Jerusalem, during a visit to the Yad Vashem Remembrance Centre, that the Serbian people, together with the Jewish people, will cherish the memory of the victims of the Holocaust and will be an opponent of any historical revisionism.

Đurić said that throughout history, the Serbian people have always stood shoulder to shoulder with the Jewish people, recalling that this year we are marking 80 years since the victory over fascism and Nazism.

According to him, this is all the more reason to cherish the culture of remembrance, that is, to preserve the memory of the victims and the evil that was committed in this and future generations, but also to understand well the ideology that led to the Holocaust.

As a descendant of Holocaust survivors, I am proud to come from a country where there were many who helped Jews survive in World War II, which is why Serbia is among the countries, and Serbs among the nations, with the largest number of winners of the Righteous Among the Nations medal, the Minister emphasised.

Đurić also assessed that marking eight decades since the liberation of the Jasenovac camp places before us the obligation to be united in rejecting historical revisionism and insisting on the fact that what happened in World War II is sufficiently and appropriately discussed through educational systems.
