Continuation of continuous dialogue between NATO, Serbia

Minister of Defence Bratislav Gašić highlighted today, during the talks with the Commander of the NATO Joint Force Command in Naples, Admiral Stuart Munsch, the importance of continuous dialogue between Serbian and NATO officials at all levels, with the aim of improving mutual trust and understanding.

Gašić expressed particular concern regarding the unilateral moves of Albin Kurti, directed against Serbia and the Serb community, as well as the fact that certain NATO member states are bilaterally participating in the arming, capacity building, capabilities and transformation of the so-called Kosovo Security Forces into the so-called Kosovo Armed Forces, contrary to UN Security Council Resolution 1244.

He underlined that Serbia remains a dedicated and credible partner, committed to maintaining the existing level of cooperation and improving relations with NATO in areas of common interest under the auspices of the Partnership for Peace Programme, as the optimal framework for achieving security goals and improving its own defence capabilities.

Munsch praised the long-term partnership between NATO and Serbia, emphasising that NATO fully respects Serbia's policy of military neutrality.

The Admiral underlined that the Western Balkans is a region of strategic importance for NATO, and reaffirmed the Alliance's firm commitment to stability in the region.

He emphasised that KFOR remains fully committed to implementing its mandate based on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244, through the provision of a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement.
